Why “Helios”?
The story of the Greek god Helios always inspired me, it’s a very romantic tale about ushering in the rising of the sun.  I tend to write music at night into the early morning, often seeing the sun rise, so it seemed appropriate.

How long does it take you to create one song?
It really depends, sometimes it might take half a day, sometimes a month, and sometimes I write part of a song, leave it for a good long while and revisit it.  The composing is sometimes the quick part, but mixing and the sound design of it all seem to be the part that takes a long while.

What inspires you the most? Or Who?
I think my past inspires me a lot, experiences I’ve had, people I’ve known (know).  All the emotions that come with that, it’s all wrapped up into something intangible that comes through when sitting down to write something.

How old are you?
I just turned 28.

What was your favorite movie as a kid?
That’s tough, because I grew up on movies in the 80’s.  One of my favorite films as a kid was “Legend”.  Tim Curry as the devil is one of the most believable roles to date.

What’s your favorite band or artist?
Through the years I’ve kept the discography of The Innocence Mission very handy.

Favorite place in the whole entire world?
I think I like the Redwood National Forest the best so far.  The Derbyshire area in the UK is a close second.

Hypothetical Questions:

You can go anytime in the PAST. What time you traveling to and what are you going to do when you get there?
I’d love to travel back in time and catch the original premiere of the Rite of Spring by Stravinsky.  Before the riot started I’d bump the person’s arm next to me and say “He’s pretty good eh?”

You just got a free plane ticket to take you anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you going to go?
I’d demand two plane tickets and my wife and I would be off to Lisbon.

You are an unanimated object, you are a…?
Redwood tree in an undiscovered old growth forest

Theme song of your life. Do you have one?
Yes, “A Complex Shape in the Sky” by Tom Recchion

If you were to play a different genre of music, what would it be?
Old-timey country

Why did you start making music?
It seemed like the most logical thing in the world to do

Nebula or Aurora Borealis?
Aurora Borealis

Your last words, can only contain 4 words, those words are…
Until it gets dark
