Interview with Letters And Lights

Letters and Lights is an indie / acoustic band from Seattle consisting of two members, Erik Knudsen and Ethan Crawford. With over 2 million plays on their myspace, Letters & Light has earned a big amount of fans in a short time, because of their songs and their charisma. Check out what Erik says about the band in this interview.

Where did the idea of Letters and Lights come from?

Basically we made a list of 50+ band names we thought were catchy and narrowed them down to the four names “Summer set go, White Winter Lights, Summer Estate, Letters and Lights” My mom thought Letters and Lights was the best. So that’s what it was!

Where or how far would you like to take the band?

As far as we possibly can. Its hard to tour and leave town being in high school, but as soon as we graduate…..

What do you guys do in your spare time?

record and produce music, hang out with friends, play Call of Duty, eat, do back hang springs, party, go to school, babysit, train wild animals.

What’s on Your iPod?

Lots of various pop rock music like My American Heart, Mayday Parade, CIWWAF. We also listen to a ton of heavy stuff, some of our favorites being, August Burns Red and Oceano. Ethan listens to 90% straight up rap and is reallllly in to Lil Wayne.

Who or What inspires you to create music?

A lot of people. Especially smaller artists that we watch get big! Like Justin Bieber and Owl City. Gives us hope!

Do you write about anything in specific?

I tend to write songs about Love, Family and my life as it changes while I continue growing up.

Favorite movie seen in 2009-2010

What’s your favorite song of yours?

Probably Going Going Gone. I really enjoyed writing it.

What does music means for you or how it has affected you?

I have been making music since 8^th grade, and I know Ethan started playing instruments at an early age, as well and began to write. We both wanted to make it in the music industry so we are very excited about what has happened with our band and what the future holds.
